US Olympic Committee: Born in The USA, Dressed In China

Can you believe that for once Republicans and Democrats have something they agree on... AND that it's just plain commonsense too? When something is that bad that everyone cringes what kind of moron would try and defend it? A jackass named Patrick Sandusky, spokes-tard for the USOC.

Republicans and Democrats railed Thursday about the U.S. Olympic Committee's decision to dress the U.S. team in Chinese manufactured berets, blazers and pants while the American textile industry struggles economically with many U.S. workers desperate for jobs.[..]

In a statement, the U.S. Olympic Committee defended the choice of designer Ralph Lauren for the clothing at the London Games, which begin later this month.

"Unlike most Olympic teams around the world, the U.S. Olympic Team is privately funded and we're grateful for the support of our sponsors," USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said in a statement.[..]

On Twitter, Sandusky called the outrage over the made-in-China uniforms nonsense. The designer, Sandusky wrote, "financially supports our team. An American company that supports American athletes." (AP)

Really Pat are you THAT much of a dumbass? Seriously? I have to ask again, seriously? Because that's the damned stupidest thing I've ever heard. Our athletes are supposed to be representing AMERICA not the fucking trade deficit. Who cares if it costs more, if you asked people to chip in to buy uniforms made in the US don't you think people would? Don't you think American textile manufacturers would even donate the duds themselves?

I couldn't give a rats ass who designed the uniforms. Quite frankly the "beret" says "poofter-frenchie" not "bat-swingin American." It's not a great uniform, it's not even good, it's hardly even marginally ok.

Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters at a Capitol Hill news conference on taxes.

"If they have to wear nothing but a singlet that says USA on it, painted by hand, then that's what they should wear," he said, referring to an athletic jersey.

For once I'm totally on the side of our lawmakers. Hell, if they have to go naked with USA painted on their ass that's good enough. At least what they show the world will be 100% Made in the USA.

It was silly not to clothing made in the USA. But I have a hard time getting up in arms about it either. I'd rather they spent more money on things the athletes actually need and less on designer clothing.

That said... the design is ugly. Who the fuck wears a beret? And the rest of it is a yuppie bullshit suit jacket that looks like it just jumped out of the yacht club? If that's designer, they would have been better picking up some random (and cheaper) student and giving them a chance.

Sandusky's defense is that Ralph Lauren is "an American company that supports American athletes." I would add: An American company sends jobs to China. And their stuff is not inexpensive, so they are pocketing the difference.

Maybe they had a bunch of berets they couldn't sell and they thought "Gee, what can we do with these? hmm. I know! We'll give them to the Olympic Athletes!"
