Municipalities (insert taxpayers) spend millions for stadiums and arenas to attract professional sports teams. Many players get paid obscene amounts of money. Although the taxpayers heavily subsidize the venues most these primadonnas play in, many can not afford a ticket to enter. I could care less if I ever go to another live sporting event in my life, but every time I drive in a pot-hole or hear about an old, poorly maintained school, the thought that tax money is being spent to kiss the asses of sports team's owners pisses me off.
Now look at the other end of sports fanaticism - rioting celebrants. I know I'm just a chick, but I can not fathom a correlation between property damage and being happy your team won. Nothing says "Way to go -insert your favorite team-" like setting a police cruiser on fire and breaking windows. I just don't get it.
So who gets to pay for the police cruiser and other public property destroyed by sports crazed assholes? The assholes may pay part of the bill, if any are even caught, but the taxpayers get to pay the rest, since most municipalities are "self-insured". Furthermore, the property damage suffered of any innocent bystander is probably the problem of that property owner.
So, Sports Fanatic Loser - Quit burning shit up and breaking things. Grow up. And while you're at it, quit yelling at the TV, they can't hear you.
Now may be your only chance to torch a police car.
