RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A cleric in Saudi Arabia has issued a fatwa calling for all baby girls to be fully covered by a burqa due to reports of young girls being sexually molested.

Sheik Abdulla Daoud, in an interview last year on al-Majd television, said wearing the burqas will help protect babies, al Arabiya News reported Sunday.

And now exhibit B:

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) -- Online activists in Saudi Arabia are calling for harsher punishments for child abuse after reports that a prominent cleric received only a light sentence after confessing to the beating death of his 5-year-old daughter.[..]

Saudi media reports say Fayhan al-Ghamdi, a frequent guest on Islamic TV programs, was arrested in November on charges of killing the girl. The reports said he questioned the child's virginity.

How is it that these learned, religious scholars are so obviously retarded? Wrapping babies during a critical developmental stage in their lives, putting them at risk of strangulation, suffocation and heat stroke is criminally stupid. Unless it's just part of a greater plan to kill baby girls, which is pretty popular in the region. Take the second article as example of that fact. Questioning the virginity of his own five year old daughter? If there was any question it was because he was not just a murderer but also a molester. For $50k he gets to walk away from beating his own baby girl to death.

Wtf is wrong with these people and their nation? I don't want to blame it all on Islam but it's hard not to when crimes like these are clearly associated. Maybe it's just all the money, but whatever the cause maybe Saudi Arabia needs the same kind of intervention that Afghanistan got because they sure as shit can't seem to figure out on their own.
