It happened. My mega $$$ XP gaming burner box finally bit the dust a couple of days ago. It had been a the best money could buy back in the day. Sadly in the middle of the day it froze up, never to return again as the motherboard decided it was time to retire after 6 long years of service to me. I'm going to miss the ole rig, it was good to me. I kept her busy.. busy as a cucumber in a women's prison.
I replaced it with a newer I5-750 Intel setup, Windoze 7, 4gb DDR3, 1.5TB Raid-1 array on an Adaptec 1220 card, GT220 video card since I don't game much anymore if at all on the PC - but it runs all the occasional games I still play even better than my old 6800GT, at 1/4 the cost. Seems pretty fast, stable so far,. I was able to easily move over my Firefox and Thunderbird settings amongst dozens of other profiles and settings for various programs - so it hasn't been a huge inconvenience so far. Sucks though.. I'll miss the old PC.

Bummer, man. My main rig is eight years old, and still going strong. If the thing ever went out on Me, I'd be pretty pissed :(
A lot of people buy into the advertising hype that a system is obsolete within a year or two, but the fact is a good ATX-based rig can remain viable for a looooong time, and six years certainly ain't a bad lifetime for a main rig.

There's a lot of this going around. Odessa can post her own comment here on the death of her mobo last week. Me? I lost my best friend, my travelling companion, my sanity-lifeline when the screen shattered in my Vaio. It will cost more to fix than it's worth. After over 8 years of reliable service it made me want to cry.

I am limping along with my 'won't play nice with the router' Vista laptop. However, my big box will rise again!!!!! I will replace the mobo at some point. Why will I meld old with new? Simple - Windows 7 or it hideous lil' sister Vista. My old rig and the HD has xp. *drools over thought of new mo bo w/ quad core, 8 gig and xp*
