Some Jews and Muslims can get along. However, Jews and Muslims are noted more for their distrust and dislike of each other. Considering that, it is interesting to note their similarities, particularly among the more "conservative" or "orthodox" adherents.
1) Both avoid pork.
2) The dietary laws of Halal and Kosher are similar, so are the butchering techiques.
3) Both require some level of physical separation of the sexes of non-related people.
4) Both proscribe modest dress for women that includes the covering of the head (orthodox Jewish women frequently use wigs rather than cloth)
5) Both have similar procedures for handling the dead, like avoiding desecration of the body (no autopsy, for example) and burying the body quickly
I'm sure there are more, but I my intent was not to explore every detail. I know some might say this over simplifies things, that things are more complicated than that. I say that is just hair splitting.
So I guess my question is: Since the two religions diverge after you get past the monotheistic aspect, then isn't possible that all the stuff listed above is more cultural than spiritual? No flaming needed, it's just a simple question.
