I'll bet you thought this post was going to be about the whole health care fervor, didn't you? Well it's not, so there. Ha. It's about those little paper toilet seat covers you find in nicer bathrooms. They're pretty ubiquitous where I work. Virtually every stall has one. Today I noticed that they're called "health guards" and that made me wonder: What am I being guarded against?

Now it's not like most people (other than fetishists) go around licking toilet seats, so this flimsy paper shield must be guarding against a skin-based attack. I find that interesting since most skin is pretty robust to pathogens unless it has a laceration. Not that I want to go there really. I'll let the S&M community worry about it instead. Anyway... So really, where's the worry when it comes to sitting on a toilet seat? Cooties?

The only butt-cooties you can really get are from people who sprinkle when they tinkle. And for the most part urine is considered to have some semi-antiseptic properties, at least historically anyway. So that tells me that sprinklers might actually be doing a public service right?

I guess the only "health" these little paper sheets might be protecting against is purely mental. And I suppose since I really don't care too much about butt-bacteria chomping into my ass my mental health will be ok even if I don't use them.

I hear ya. And its the little miss prissy pants who can't let their sweet tooshies touch that leave a mess for the rest of us.

Of course I have seen bathrooms where even hovering is not an option - but those are in a category of filth all their own. *shudder*

As a guy, I like the paper seat covers because I never trust another man's aim. Yes, lots of guys are too lazy to raise the damn seat before they open fire.
