I think the little button has the wrong symbol. Instead of a fan with three squiggly lines across it I think it should simply say "OW MY EYE."

This is because I wear contacts.

Sure turning on the defroster is key, especially on cold, rainy, winter days like these, but I dread it. It means that within the next minute or so all the moisture will get sucked from the little plastic membrane and it will adhere itself like a remora to my eyeball. Not fun, nor comfortable, nor really useful for my ability to see which is the main point of using the defogger in the first place.

I realize it's the easiest solution, blowing warm air up from the dash to dry out the glass but there are alternatives. I don't mean using the A/C, I think it's a little goofy in winter to blow icy air into the car. I'm referring to the direction in which the air forced across the window. Although more expensive, it's entirely possible to push the air across or down instead of up into the driver's face. There's other benefits to those concepts too. Blowing the air across would also clear the side windows faster. Blowing the air down would also warm the occupants of the vehicle.

My point isn't to solve the problem it's just to point out that there are alternatives. Not that I expect any auto manufacturer to listen to me. But since I can't give up exhaling I'm pretty much forced to deal with the defroster in my face annealing my contacts to my eyes for four months out of the year.

Letting the little engineer out to play? :-P

Yeah, the designers don't seem to give a crap about many comfort issues and I doubt they will listen you anymore than they would listen to be gripe about seat-belts (I'll just say, they make the girls very unhappy). I will say, some manufacturers do get the defroster thing right. I have no eyeball directed air from the defrosters in my current car, so it can be done.
