Once again it's the case where the lazy-ass-fucking-moron-bird gets the worm and the hard-working-smart-bird gets shit. I'm talking about people who thought it was a "good idea" to buy monster trucks and SUVs that got shitty mileage and are now stuck with them. (Note there's a difference between those types and the ones who have already seen the light and sold their unsightly behemoths).
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congress approved a ''cash for clunkers'' program Thursday to provide government incentives of $3,500 to $4,500 to motorists who trade in their gas guzzlers for more fuel efficient vehicles [...]
Under the proposal, car owners could get a voucher worth $3,500 if they traded in a vehicle getting 18 miles per gallon or less for one getting at least 22 mpg. The value of the voucher would grow to $4,500 if the mileage of the new car was 10 mpg higher than the old vehicle. The miles per gallon figures are listed on the car window's sticker.
Owners of sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks or minivans that get 18 mpg or less could receive a voucher for $3,500 if their new truck or SUV got at least 2 mpg higher than their old vehicle. The voucher would increase to $4,500 if the mileage of the new truck or SUV was at least 5 mpg higher than the older vehicle.
So if their "new" SUV got 20 mpg that would be the win? No, not hardly. It's still a fucking fail. Douchebags who honestly believe they need to commute on the highway in stupid-huge Tahoes, 'Burbs and Hummers do not need to be rewarded with a discount to buy a new vehicle. They need a kick in the balls. 2 mpg better is not a substantial increase. It's a way to sell new cars. Frankly I don't even find 23 mpg all that fucking impressive. If I were in charge I'd say 25 mpg or better. I'd also start taxing the holy bejeezus out of the assholes burning up our fuel and polluting the air while hauling their lone fat-ass to work. Haul at least three or four asses to work, *then* you get the tax break.
I'm tired of being the conscientious one. Why are the slack asses and idiots the ones who get all the money? While you're at it why not offer the same schmucks a few thou off of their credit card debt? I'm sure they're the same ones who bought the stupid ugly vehicles in the first place.
